I have noticed that a persons attitude can be contagious. If you surround yourself around negative people, you will spend your time being negative as well but when you are around people in a good mood, your spirits are lifted as well.
So a couple months ago Kristi decided to start something between the two of us where everyday we tell each other something that makes us smile. It can be anything from something significant that we have done together like conquering volcanoes or something small and pointless like the feeling of warm clothes fresh from the dryer. The goal is to find something in life that will put a smile on our face.
I feel like this is something that should be shared. Life is too short to walk around in a shitty mood, stressing and sweating things that are ultimately meaningless at the end of the day. I am fortunate enough that my mom taught me at a young age to not sweat the small stuff. It always takes something rather significant for her to actually be upset and I am grateful that I adopted that characteristic from her. It really does make enjoying life that much easier.
So every morning when you first wake up or late at night before you fall asleep, ask yourself: “What makes me smile?” “What do I appreciate in life?” There’s no sense spending your day grumpy when you can start everything off with a simple positive thought.
My simple happy thought for the day: Fresh coffee to wake me up.
